Burleigh

Burleigh Heads is a unique destination for the Gold Coast, it’s culture and geography lending it a more interesting and enjoyable feel than many of Gold Coast’s already beautiful destinations.

Burleigh is dominated by the headland, a National Park with fantastic views and abundant  native fauna. One of my favorite relaxing days out is a walk around Burleigh Heads National Park, stopping to watch the surfers on the point break, heading into Burleigh shops for a gelato, and then strolling back around to Tallebudgera Creek for a dip.

Then there are the James Street shops, an interesting mix of fashion, cafes, op-shops and surfy hang-outs. It manages to be relaxed, upmarket and a little down market all at the same time. We are loving James St and it’s shopping more every day!

The culture of Burleigh is a mixture of elements, from the arty-bohemian crowd, to the surfers, the well-healed and the holiday makers. The Burleigh Heads Drum Circle has been a fixture on a Sunday evening for longer than I can remember. There’s something a little “Byron Bay” about Burleigh Heads, and the enduring popularity of the drum circle is testament to that, succeeding effortlessly where similar groups have failed elsewhere on the Gold Coast.

The location of Burleigh Heads, about halfway between the southern reaches of the Gold Coast/Tweed and Surfers Paradise, makes it a good stopping point for a holiday. You can easily visit Surfers, the theme parks, or northern NSW (Byron Bay, Bangalow, Brunswick Heads) and return to Burleigh for dinner at the local Thai or Mexican restaurant.
